COVID-19 Member Updates

COVID-19 Member Updates

Due to the rapidly changing news regarding COVID-19, the protection of IATSE Local 11 remains a top priority.  We have taken measures to protect Local 11 and all Local 11 family’s health, safety & security.

IATSE Local 11, including the Benefit Department, has made the necessary adjustments to operate remotely and remain fully available to members during the COVID-19 crisis.

Please take a moment to review the following resources available to assist members during this challenging time.

Financial Benefits

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to file for Unemployment at the links below as soon as possible. (Note: MA step-by-step instructions can be found on Local 11’s web site, or click here for a video tutorial) Unemployment is the first of several critical steps you can take to maintain a steady income:
If you have any issues with your claim please call the office and we have direct access to people at the DUI who can help troubleshoot claim issues.

All IATSE members are also eligible for a variety of social services and grants after a $2.5 million donation by the International to charitable funds.  Local 11 members are encouraged to reach out to the Actors Fund of America, Click here for more information or to apply for financial aid grants. (don’t let the name fool you…the Actors Fund helps all backstage workers)

Additionally, Local 11 Annuity Fund hardship withdrawals have been extended to assist members in the wake of COVID-19. Participants are eligible for immediate withdrawal in the amount of their loss due to layoffs, cancelled work, and other expenses related to the virus. If a hardship withdrawal is necessary please contact Lee Moore at lmoore@iatse11.org or call the union hall for more information.

Healthcare Benefits

The IATSE National Benefit Funds (NBF) has waived all fees for COVID-19 testing for all Plan A, Plan C, and Triple S participants. Please take advantage of this if you or your family are showing any COVID-19 symptoms, including cough or fever. Click here to visit NBF website.

Furthermore, Modern Assistance Programs (MAP) has made many of its regular mental health services available online, including AA meetings, health and mindfulness courses for all ages, counseling by appointment and more. For more information and a full list of resources, click here to visit the MAP website.  Modern Assistance Program Services are free of charge to Local 11 Members and our families.

Hiring Hall Updates

It is important to note that members Hiring Hall rank order will NOT be affected during the widespread work stoppage.

We realize that the existing hiring hall system will require an earnings threshold adjustment to compensate for the current reality. Rest assured at the Hiring Hall Committee’s next meeting we will draft a recommendation, which will be presented to the Executive Board and membership for approval.

The Hiring Hall Committee will be meeting by teleconference in early April to review all 2019 appeals.  If you need help submitting an appeal, please either call the office or send an e mail.

Take Action

Our union is working with our elected officials on both the state and federal level to ensure we get what our members need.

The International has set up a letter-writing campaign where you can reach your elected members of congress in just a few clicks.

Tell Congress to include displaced Entertainment industry workers in the relief package

In addition to working diligently to support IATSE Local 11 members, we also stand in solidarity with all the workers in other industries who remain on the frontlines, delivering vital services to our community and fighting the COVID-19 virus on all our behalves.

As such, it is 100% necessary that we fulfill our social responsibility to stay home and minimize the spread of the virus. It is the best way to let this difficult moment in our industry, and our nation, pass as soon as possible, and with the smallest toll.

IATSE Local 11 will continue to provide important updates to members, and we encourage you to stay informed and appraised as the situation transforms.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.  Local 11’s main phone number will have the answering service on 24/7 (617) 269-5595.  Visit our web site member’s only home page for updated information at: www.iatse11.org
